While visiting in Lima (I know the stories have to be getting old to you all) my girlfriend and I stepped outside and glanced up when be both noticed a very bright star.  Neither one of us knowing very much about astronomy, we debated whether it was a star, or a planet.  After a few minutes of debating, on which it was, we asked her mom.  She told us that it was “The Southern Cross.”  I came to find out that it is only viewable below latitude 30 in the Northern Hemisphere.  I was kind of bummed to find out that I couldn’t see it from here.  Anyways, the Southern Cross is actually a constellation, not an individual star.  Better yet, the brightest “star” in the Southern Cross, Acrux, is actually not a star…It is two stars that orbit each other too closely to be distinguished.  I thought that was interesting.  I guess it could be awhile before I see it again.

Your President Elect (Barak Obama) has done one good thing so far. No joke.  He did something good.

“If you’ve got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there’s no clear decisive winner,” he told Steve Kroft. “We should be creating a playoff system.”

He even got into specifics: “Eight teams. That would be three rounds to determine a national champion. It would add three extra weeks to the season. You could trim back on the regular season. I don’t know any serious fan of college football who has disagreed with me on this. So, I’m going to throw my weight around a little bit. I think it’s the right thing to do.”

Caleb and I had that exact conversation before I left for my great vacation in Peru, all the way down to the number of weeks and amount of time it would take. Oh well.  Check it out!

Using an online flower delivery, I was able to send some beautiful flowers to my even more beautiful girlfriend.  As I expected, she flattered them completely.  I hope she doesn’t mind my sharing a picture.

This is my first blog update using Windows Live Writer, so I am not exactly sure how I like it yet.  However, if it makes adding photos to my blog, I will continue to use it.  If anybody has tried Windows Live Writer before and has something that they would consider valuable information, I would appreciate it.

Ok, after experimenting a tad, I think I like this Live Writer, about the only thing I haven’t tried doing yet is adding a video.

By the way, the background picture was taken in Larcomar, a beautiful place, but doesn’t even compare to how beautiful my girlfriend is.
